The BIRD team was able to identify 25-year-old <\/span>Daniel Ivov Ignatov<\/b>, accused of embezzling <\/span>half a million levs<\/b> by clients as an employee of UniCredit Bulbank. He presents himself as <\/span>Business Clients Manager<\/b> of the bank. His LinkedIn profile shows that Ignatov occupies this position since October 2022 and that since 2021 he has acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the UNWE. Previously, he was a private client consultant and has been working at the bank since October 2019 (while still a student). His Facebook profile shows that he is originally from Haskovo.<\/span><\/p>\n

On August 3, 2023, the Interior Ministry <\/span>announced<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> that metropolitan police had detained a 25-year-old man – a <\/span>bank employee<\/b>, wrongfully embezzled a large sum of money from clients of the bank. He filled out payment orders on behalf of clients in his own hand, then transferred the amounts to various accounts to which he had access. The man is <\/span>Detained before leaving the country<\/b>. The Sofia City Court (SCC) determined the most severe measure “detention in custody”. Then it became clear that the accused employee was named Daniel Ignatov – business client manager of the bank. If found guilty, the employee could face a prison sentence of 10 to 20 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2017 <\/span>over BGN 3.8 million<\/b> were stolen from the accounts of former Bulgarian football national Martin Petrov. His personal banker at UniCredit Bulbank <\/span>Irina Chavdarova Atkova<\/b> He deludes him that he is still an employee of the bank and steals the amount. She escaped justice and <\/span>Hiding abroad<\/b>. Martin Petrov leads <\/span>case<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> against the bank, but in addition to the fact that <\/span> the money is gone, the documents – also<\/b><\/p>\n

<\/a>. Documents for more than 450 banking operations are missing – some of them were destroyed, others were seized by the prosecutor’s office. Case No 26581\/2017 of the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office (Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office) is “in corpses<\/strong>” and is already <\/span>Six years blocked the lawsuit<\/b> filed by the football international.<\/span><\/p>\n

BIRD contacted “UniCredit Bulbank” for comment with questions about the detained bank employee <\/span>Daniel Ignatov<\/b>. We sent an e-mail request to the PR team with whom there was communication on other occasions, but by the editorial end of the article we received no response.<\/span><\/p>\n

It remains to be seen whether there are other employees of the bank involved and whether this is the amount of misappropriated funds from the accounts of business customers of the bank.<\/span><\/p>\n
