The BIRD team was able to identify 25-year-old Daniel Ivov Ignatov, accused of embezzling half a million levs by clients as an employee of UniCredit Bulbank. He presents himself as Business Clients Manager of the bank. His LinkedIn profile shows that Ignatov occupies this position since October 2022 and that since 2021 he has acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the UNWE. Previously, he was a private client consultant and has been working at the bank since October 2019 (while still a student). His Facebook profile shows that he is originally from Haskovo.

On August 3, 2023, the Interior Ministry announced

that metropolitan police had detained a 25-year-old man – a bank employee, wrongfully embezzled a large sum of money from clients of the bank. He filled out payment orders on behalf of clients in his own hand, then transferred the amounts to various accounts to which he had access. The man is Detained before leaving the country.
