The Prosecutor’s Office continues the case in which protesters and politicians are wiretapped

The prosecutor’s file with number 01425 from 2020, of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office, on which protesters and politicians are wiretapped, is still active. This showed a check of the BRRD in the system for tracking the status of the files on the PRB website. The number of the file is found in confidential documents of the General Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime (GDBOP), which request the destruction of the materials from the wiretapping of Nastimir Ananiev – object “Nastimir”.

Ananiev is the leader of the small party “Volt” and is part of the platform “Stand up BG” of Maya Manolova. It has been subject to SSDs requested by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office with Request N° RB421137-001-12/77-1435/21.12.2020, authorized by the Specialized Criminal Court. The pre-trial proceedings on the inventory of the Investigation Department of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office are numbered 115/2020 and the prosecutor’s file is numbered 1425/2020.

All this is clear from an accompanying letter of the General Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime (GDBOP) to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office dated 17.02.2021, which sent for destruction two optical media from February 2 and 16. The metadata in the letter, which the editorial office has in the form of a file MS Word, confirms the names of the person who prepared the letter: Dimitar Traykov Ignatov.

The GDBOP letter follows a request from the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office sent by prosecutor Ivan Valeriev Parvanov to DATO, ordering the suspension of the application of SSDs to Ananiev. It is dated from 10.02.2021. It alleged that the intended purpose had been ‘achieved.’

Earlier, the BRRD revealed that two prosecutors seconded by the Sofia Regional Prosecutor’s Office to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office requested the application of SSDs to the activist of “Stand Up, BG” Tihomir Vassilev in pre-trial proceedings for a coup d’état. These are Nikolay Yordanov Popov – son of former Vice President Margarita Popova and Ivan Valeriev Parvanov – son of former Deputy Prosecutor General Valeri Parvanov. In July 2020, these prosecutors requested the application of SSDs to 25 sites, one of which is Tihomir Vassilev, the Tycho site. However, Ananiev’s wiretapping request is at a later date than the end of 2021.

The objective has been achieved, but the file is active

A check with the file number 01425 on the PRB’s website showed that it is active and the last action on it is from 20.05.2021, when its extension was requested by the administrative head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office.

“I have no information about such a file,” Nastimir Ananiev said on the phone. “No one contacted me, they didn’t let me know. I was not called for questioning,” he added.

The fact that the SSDs requested against Nastimir Ananiev have been destroyed, but the file is still active, means that other persons are probably running on it. It is not clear what the claim that the intended purpose was “achieved” means, nor what the purpose was.

In the previously published documents on the wiretapping of Tihomir Vassilev, the aim is to collect data on criminal activity of the OCG, which aims to forcibly overthrow power through a coup – a serious crime under the Penal Code. This is how prosecutors qualify peaceful protesters and activists of Maya Manolova’s movement.
