Dana Medeuova, niece of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, owns land worth more than BGN 1 million in the Bulgarian capital Sofia’s Lyulin district through a Bulgarian company. This is revealed in an investigation by the Russian investigative news site iStories. BIRD.bg helped the investigation by providing evidence and data.
Medeuova is the daughter of Tokayev’s sister Karligi Tokayeva and Temirtai Izbastin , who was appointed by Tokayev as Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Bulgaria in November 2019. The Izbastin family also has businesses in the Czech Republic and Germany.
But Dana Medeuova had started working in Bulgaria even before her father was appointed Ambassador. In June 2017, she transferred nearly EUR 700,000 from her personal account at UniCredit Bulbank to the account of the company SD Property Investments. On the same day, the company acquired a 1.4-decare property across the “Silver” shopping center in Lyulin for EUR 571,000. So far, the terrain is not built up and is used as a parking lot, but has great investment potential.
The iStories investigation also revealed tens of millions of USD in property and assets of Tokayev and his family in the United States, Russia and Switzerland.
